After two second places for the Reservoir Flyfishing Championship for the Youth of Belgium in 2014 and 2015, CCF-member and G.Loomis -youngster Giani Devooght has finally become champion of Belgium in 2016.

Fishing dry with Hawthorns, nymphing with Diawl Bachs, a Bung every now and than as well as a small streamer at the right moment. This last fly was the secret weapon that mentor Guido Vinck pulled out of his hat.

He fished a very strong competition, was able to control his nerves en finished well ahead of the others. When you win three of the four sessions with a total of only six points, and number two has 24 points behind his name…

The championship came as a big relief to Giani. He was really tired after the competition (as it should be) and was quietly humming songs in the back of the car on the way back. Will we hear the national Brabançonne at a World Championship any time soon for him? Stay calm and work hard, the road is still a long one, but the cruise control is set.
