Fly anglers now experience Shimano reel technology with new Asquith fly reels

Bringing its manufacturing capabilities and technology to fly anglers, Shimano introduces its new Asquith fly reels, offered in a 3/4 and 7/8 sizes.

While many fly anglers in the U.S. and Canada may know Shimano only for its spinning and casting reels like the Stella and Curado series, and reels for big-game action like the Tiagra series, Shimano has manufactured fly reels for anglers in countries including Australia and Japan, and also in the U.K. and throughout Europe. With the introduction of the new G. Loomis/Shimano Asquith fly rods, “it is just natural to bring Shimano fly reels to North America,” said Shimano product manager Chris Hess.

Both Asquith fly reels are designed around Shimano’s Hagane Body technology, showcasing Shimano’s no distortion, no flex frame machining capabilities.

Made with lightweight aluminum, the full frame design offered means less line tangle. The use of Shimano’s proprietary CI4+ material contributes to a lightweight handle.

Protection from the elements – along with for use in saltwater - comes from a sealed drag system and two shielded ARB (anti-rust) bearings.

“This is only the beginning for Shimano and our efforts in the North American fly fishing market. We plan on expanding the Asquith fly reel series so we can offer the right size and needed features to match with all the G. Loomis/Shimano Asquith rods,” notes Hess. For more information on the Asquith 3/4 and 7/8 fly reels, see your local tackle dealer or visit the Shimano website at http://fish.shimano.com / www.shimano.com.

    1. Hi Mike, It looks like they are sold left or right hand drive, so I am afraid that this can not be changed.
