The Orvis Hydros SL fly reel is a step up from the original Hydros, putting greater emphasis on swift line retrieval by delivering up to a 12% increase in pick-up rates, says the US manufacturer.

The standard trout size takes in 8.2 inches of line per second, which is faster than most similar reels of this size.

This super-large arbor model has a highly-adjustable, silky smooth, sealed drag with a fully-sealed inside drag mechanism and an asymmetrically-designed drag knob. “The Hydros SL has almost three times stronger drag, with zero start-up inertia,” reports Orvis. “The narrow spool means there is less line stacking. There is also increased backing capacity. Tolerances have been improved to provide smoother operation.” The ergonomically-designed reel is made from black nickel with a smooth finish. Its light weight will be an advantage to those anglers who like to optimise feel and balance.
