Niklaus Bauer demonstrates for the first time at the EWF

Niklaus Bauer will take part for the first time at the international Experience the World of Fly Fishing on 1st and 2nd of April, 2017, giving casting demonstrations and tying flies.

Niklaus Bauer tied his first pike flies at the kitchen table in his country house on a small remote island in the archipelago north of Stockholm more than 25 years ago. The flies were tied on hooks made for coarse fishing and were strongly inspired by tarpon flies. They went for a swim at his favorite pike cove later that afternoon and, after 30 minutes of fishing, Niklaus landed his first pike on fly. That 10lb pike changed his whole life and, since then, he has been chasing big pike and other fish with his fly rod all over the world.

Fly-tying has always been a big part of Niklaus’ life and the goal to optimize the flies when it comes to movement, durability, and fishability is important today for him. He has been greatly involved in modern tube flies for pike and the development of new materials and techniques for pike fly fishing and fly tying.

Today he lives in Stockholm with his wife and two golden retrievers and the boat in the garage is always ready for pike fly fishing. For the last 18 years, he has been a part owner of the largest wholesaler for fly fishing and fly tying in Sweden called Fly-Dressing. He tries to tie flies and fly fish as often as possible.
