In 2012 EFFA started the open European fly tying championship. It was named EFFA Open. Within a short time it became well known and participants from all over the world took part and even participants from the other side of the Atlantic could finally find their names on the winner’s lists. Everyone can participate – beginners as well as fly tying experts. The only requirement is to send in two identical flies which match the criteria. It is possible for everyone to participate in all three categories; dry fly, nymph and streamer.

The international jury consisting of Theo Atanassov, Erwin Tibad and Igor Stancev has carefully checked all flies. The results of the jury of the EFFA OPEN International Fly Tying Competition 2017 are as follows:
