Richard van der Meer wins Hardy Cup 2017 at the Berenkuil

With 98 points and a total of 18 fish landed, was Richard van der Meer the new winner of the Hardy Cup. The competition was fished at one of the ponds plus the large lake of the Berenkuil in Nijkerk.

With 98 points, and a total of 18 fish landed, was Richard van der Meer the new winner of the Hardy Cup. The competition was fished at one of the ponds plus the large lake of the Berenkuil in Nijkerk on Saturday the 29th of April, 2017. 34 fly-fishers took part in the competition this year.

 

A total of 385 fish were caught during the day, strangely enough more fish were caught on the large lake this year.

A good view of the competition... Omroep Gelderland made recordings for television in the morning, this was broadcast from 17.00 hours onwards.

The competition was fished under excellent conditions, little wind, dry and sunny, with temperatures around 14 degrees Celsius. Rising fish could be seen everywhere. Most fish were caught on streamers on different fly-lines and on Buzzers below a bung.

A few large golden trout were caught next to the rainbow trout (which were often big too), plus a big bream... The competition started at 8.30 hours and went on until 18.30 hours, with three pauzes in between. It was organised by Leon Godijk, with the help of Hendrik Hamstra and a number of volunteers.

Alex van Roon fishing with a high level of concentration. Of every session of half an hour a ranking was made, by the end of the day the fly-fisher with the least number of points would be the winner. So it was important to score in as many sessions as possible.

After each session the competition fly-fishers would move onwards a number of places and could start fishing right away again.

The next edition of the Dutch Hardy Cup will be fished on Saturday the 28th of April, 2018.
