Quiet on Corrib but some big fish taken on fly

Declan Gibbon reports from Lough Corrib where trout angling activity has been quiet the last week as some anglers focused their attention on salmon fishing…

Larry McCarthy from Corrib View Lodge (www.corribangling.com) reports of a quieter week and fishing has been difficult the last week with wind and rain. Malcom Patrick from the UK fished with Larry for three days and caught ten fish best fish being three pounds on wet fly.

Bill Latham a Guide from the Test River in the UK stayed for four days with three friends and enjoyed some good dry sedge fishing in the Greenfield area catching several fish each day with Friday last being the best of the days with the two boats catching seventeen trout up to two and a half pounds. Caenis fishing has been poor with heavy winds hampering hatches but on Sunday last Larry reported four trout up to two pounds with two UK guests.
In the Oughterard area Gerry Molloy (www.loughcorriboughterard.com) reports of a visiting Swiss group of four rods spinning jerk baiting and trolling landing 42 fish for the week with the best fish 67 cms.

Ted Wherry from Mayfly Lodge Ballynalty (+353 (0)87 – 4305 957) reports of reasonably good fishing on Corrib. Ted tells us a good number of fish were caught for the week by visiting UK angler Andrew Wain. Andrew did particularly well and enjoyed some excellent fishing on Lough Corrib in the Ballindiff and Ballynalty bay areas on a mixture of wet and dry fly. His best was a cracking fish of 6.5lbs and Ted himself landed a fish of 7lbs all sportingly returned.

Also at the Lodge Richard Robinson fished on Saturday in the Ballycurran area and had fish up to 3.5lbs on wet and dry fly.
