Power-Pole launches bold European strategy

US company Power-Pole ‘dropped anchor’ at EFTTEX last week in what was intended to be the first step in a bold European strategy. The number one manufacturer of shallow water anchors attended the show for the first time to share the benefits of its products with interested visitors and media.

The Power-Pole offers an alternative to traditional anchors for bass boats, small aluminium craft, kayaks and other boats.

Brand owner JL Marine began shipping in 2000 and in 2013 Power-Pole won the overall Best of Show award at ICAST.

“The Power-Pole is quicker and easier to use than the traditional rope and anchor and you don’t have to worry about drift and swing taking you off course,” said Vice President Robert Shamblin (far right).

“It is available in two depths, will hold in rough winds and strong currents and can be installed on almost any boat. “As soon as you see fish you can drop the anchor at the press of a button via a hydraulic pump unit. It is also raised by remote control. An app is available to customise the anchor or you can use a Lowrance monitor. It can also be adjusted to suit the nature of the bottom.”

Shamblin and Operations Manager Lenny Gurvich launched the company’s latest product in Budapest. The new hollow Power-Pole is made using a fibre-glass composite and is half the weight of its solid predecessor.

Although the sales focus was originally on the US, the Power-Pole has since opened markets in countries including Japan, Australia and Canada.

Now the company, which has its corporate office in Florida, is looking for routes to market in Europe. “We have definitely made the decision to expand into Europe and EFTTEX is a valuable fact-finding mission,” added Shamblin. “By this time next year we hope to have signed up a significant number of partners.”

There will be more to come from Power-Pole in a few weeks’ time at ICAST, the world’s biggest fishing trade show. Plans for branching out into new and existing categories will be revealed in Orlando.
