Too windy and wet or too Sunny on Melvin!

Lough Melvin remained fairly quiet again from Monday 11th  to Sunday 17th September 2017. With the wet and windy conditions that prevailed over the week and I have heard of no rods trying for salmon. Sunday however brought a beautiful, sunny and still day. Unfortunately this coincided with the Seamus O’Doherty Perpetual Cup Pairs Trout Competition. The flat calms at times and bright sunny weather made catching trout tough!

The competition was well attended however with 26 boats (52 competitors) out fishing. Trout were hard to come by but in truth, it was a glorious day to be out after 6 weeks of horrible rain! The winning pair was Gerry O’Brien and Seamus O’Dare. In 2nd place were Aidan Langan & Alan Nutton and placed 3rd were father & son team Sean & Darren Maguire.
