EU to deliver report on recreational fishing industry

Representatives of EFTTA will be on hand to hear the presentation on ‘Recreational and Semi-subsistance Fishing – its value and impact on fish’. The report, which was sponsored to the tune of €20,000 by Brussels, was carried out by Cefas (UK), the Thünen Institute and AZTI (Spain), led by Keiran Hyder.

Hyder, of Cefas, also co-chairs the ICES Working group on Recreational Fisheries Surveys. ICES is the lead scientific advisor to the European Commission on fisheries management, status of fish stocks.

 

EFTTA attends AGA of top European fisheries advisory group

EFTTA was represented at the latest meeting of the North Western Water Advisory Council (NWWAC) meeting in Dublin last week.

Environmental and Fisheries Legal Advisor, Anna Szczodrowska, attended a number of sessions, including a meeting of a working group on the English Channel where one of the main issues under discussion was the Choke Mitigation Tool (CMT) system and the management of sole stocks. She was also present at the council’s Annual General Assembly (AGA) and its Executive Committee meeting.

During the AGA Emiel Brouckhaert was reappointed as General Assembly Honorary President and Chair. The European Anglers Alliance (EAA) was also reappointed as a member of the Executive Committee.

Conservation group, Seas at Risk, also gave a presentation on the functioning of the Advisory Councils and submitted a number of amendments to improve its performance.

 

Floor space for EFTTEX 2018 is 70% booked

Booth space for Amsterdam – a favourite EFTTEX venue among exhibitors and visitors alike – is 70% booked for 2018. EFTTA reports that 4,683 sqm of the 6,624 sqm of floor space available has already been taken by 160 exhibitors.

Stand bookings will open again at the end of October, but companies wishing to have a booth can register their interest by emailing us and joining the waiting list.
