MPA’s top of the bill at next RecFishing Forum

Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) will be the topic for discussion at the next meeting of the EFTTA and European Anglers Alliance (EAA) lobby group in Brussels next month.

The RecFishing Forum takes place on Monday, October 9 and will be attended by four members of EFTTA, CEO, Jean Claude-Bel, Public Affairs Officer, Jan Kappel, Environmental and Fisheries Legal Advisor, Anna Szczodrowska, and Membership and Communications Officer, Marisol Pinillos. The event is aimed at finding sustainable solutions to improving the management of MPA’s both ecologically and economically.

The European Commission’s Natura 2000 MPA sites cover more than 18% of the EU’s land area and almost 6% of its marine territory. MPAs are not a system of strict nature reserves from which all human activities are excluded. Recreational fisheries, and angling in particular, is a low impact activity bringing important socio-economic benefits within the MPAs and at shore, while providing ‘eyes and ears’ in areas that are difficult to monitor.
MEP Ricardo Serrão Santos will be chairing the event, entitled ‘Marine protected areas and recreational fisheries: sustainable management and benefits’…

What the talking points will include.
