Lures fished deep work for Rathcon rainbows in bitter cold

Dermot Page reports on the Rathcon Winter League final qualifier, fished just over a week ago…

The final qualifier was on February 12th. There were 18 anglers fishing and a total of 31 fish landed. It was bitterly cold with a strong north westerly wind and fishing was very tough. The fish were down deep and lures were the only method working. The biggest fish was 60 cm and caught by Martin McGorian.

The results are:
• 1st – 5 fish Martin McGorian
• 2nd – 4 fish Paul Owens
• 3rd – 4 fish Freddie Miller
• 4th – 4 fish Roger Fowler
• 5th – 3 fish Dave McBride

The top 5 anglers qualify for the final which will be on Sunday March 11th. Many thanks to the helpers today and Southside Angling for sponsoring a prize.
