Van Staal founder launches new venture at China Fish

The man behind the legendary Van Staal reels brand is at China Fish in the last few days of February with a new company and venture.

Robert Koelewyn is showing off his Visser range of watches that have been designed with the professional fisherman in mind. The face of the machine-cut aluminium timepiece looks like a reel, but the aesthetically pleasing appearance is only part of the story. “While it is something that anglers will be proud to wear, they have been built to withstand the rigours of the toughest conditions that fishing can throw at you,” explained Koelewyn.

A self-confessed ‘watch nut’, Koelewyn told Angling International: “A lot of sports, like motor racing and sailing, are associated with big watch brands. However, there is not one that is linked with fishing. This series of seven watches fills that niche and could become normal wear for anglers.” Koelewyn has set up the R-K Watch Company and is showing off the range for the first time in Beijing. A website has been launched alongside a catalogue showing off the portfolio of watches. US and Asian sales are being looked after by Koelewyn, based in China, while his brother will be looking after interest from Europe from his base in Holland.
