The Local Fight

Patagonia’s new film Blue Heart supports Nataša’s fight and documents the stories of local activists banding together to protect Europe’s last wild rivers from more than 3,000 destructive dams either proposed or in the process of being built in the Balkans, threatening thousands of kilometers of river, millions of people and hundreds of species.

Nataša Crnković works with the Centre for Environment on nature conservation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, advocating for protected rivers with a focus on engaging local communities. The country has 244 rivers, but with plans for 300 new hydropower projects, nearly all of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s rivers will be impeded, some with dozens of dams.
