A new UK fishing show planned for next month has been cancelled. Organisers of the event, scheduled to take place in Harrogate, Yorkshire, say it has received insufficient support from the trade.
“We have had good support from anglers, but the take up from the exhibitors has not been as high as needed at this stage, making the event unviable,” said The Fishing Show spokesperson, Jenny Rose.
The show’s organisers stage the 160-year old Great Yorkshire Show, which attracts some 130,000 people over three days each year, and were confident of support given the big interest in fishing in the Yorkshire region. More than 120,000 rod licences are sold annually in the county – the highest in the UK.
The show was fronted by instructor and guide, Marina Gibson, and well known fly fisherman and writer, Paul Proctor. It was also backed by England carp team manager, Rob Hughes.
It was to be staged mainly indoors, with two on-site ponds for casting and other demonstrations and would have included carp, coarse, fly and lure fishing.
