Alan Broderick from Fish Wild Ireland has been in contact to let us now that fishing has been slow in the Westmeath area over the winter with the best of the fishing towards the tail end of 2019. A number of Alan’s guests fishing in the Westmeath and Midlands areas had some good fishing to the fly at the tail end of the year with one angler boating 53 pike during a 2 day fishing trip with Alan.

The best fish was around 16lbs and there were many fish around ten pounds and the early teens. At the moment the water levels on Derravaragh are still above normal and with the recent heavy rain over the last few days levels are sure to rise again. Like most anglers, Alan is looking forward to the longer days and he is keen to let anglers know that he has made a number of upgrades to his self-drive boats over the winter. Alan informed us that all of his 4.9M Lund Laker self-drive boats are now powered by the latest Yamaha 25hp 4 stroke electric start motors.
