Save Bristol Bay: Because of your voice…

Save Bristol Bay: Because of your voice…

Dear Bristol Bay supporters,

After years of sitting on the fence, both of Alaska’s Republican U.S. Senators, Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, have now officially opposed the proposed Pebble mine.

Before we get into the details, please know that YOU, our supporters, made this happen. Your voices, spoken loudly, consistently and in unison told elected decision makers at all levels that they could not ignore or forsake Bristol Bay. Thank you.

Last month, Senator Sullivan clarified his stance on Pebble, and emphatically tweeted “I oppose the Pebble mine. No Pebble mine.” In an early October interview, he reiterated his opposition, and said even with a new mitigation plan, he would not support the Pebble mine. Last week, Senator Murkowski went a step further than just opposing the mine and vocalized her commitment to achieving long-term protections for the Bristol Bay region.  Read more and watch her statement here.

We are grateful to both Senator Sullivan and Senator Murkowski for standing with Alaskans.

We are grateful to both Senator Sullivan and Senator Murkowski for standing with Alaskans. We are grateful that other Members of Congress have committed to holding Pebble Limited Partnership accountable and stopping the project from advancing. And again, we are grateful to you for your help in achieving these major milestones.

Now, we look forward to seeing the actions Senator Sullivan and Senator Murkowski (and others) will take to ensure Pebble’s permit is officially denied, and to secure the long-term protection Bristol Bay needs and deserves. If you haven’t yet, please send a message to your Members of Congress and encourage the next actions to investigate Pebble and have its permit denied today.

Thank you again,

Meghan and Trout Unlimited’s Save Bristol Bay team
