Jean-Claude Bel to retire as EFTTA CEO

Jean-Claude Bel took a step back in his role as CEO early last year, agreeing with the Board that he would reduce overseas travel and focus on the association’s efforts in Brussels and other matters to promote the profile and visibility of EFTTA and EFTTEX.

Jean-Claude Bel, CEO of the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association (EFTTA) for the past eleven years, is to retire on October 1st this year. Brussels in June will be his last EFTTEX. Recreational fisheries discriminated against by the European Parliament in the Western Mediterranean management plan

The fish stocks in the Mediterranean Sea are in dire straits. The Commission informs that 93% of the assessed fish stocks are overexploited and several of them could collapse.

On the 10th of January 2019, the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries voted on MEP Clara Aguilera Garcia’s report on the Commission’s proposal for a multi-annual plan for the fisheries exploiting demersal stocks in the western Mediterranean Sea. The EAA and the EFTTA are very disappointed with many of the adopted amendments to the Commission’s proposed text, in particular those discriminating against recreational fishing.
