Sunny and warm Spring weather plus the fact that it was Mothers-day in the Netherlands, probably held the number of visitors at the Fly-tying Event at Trout fishery and pavilion De Ruigenhoek near Utrecht at a modest level. The people that signed up for one of the many workshops had an enjoyable day and returned home with many new ideas for tying flies.
Rick and Huyen of the Ruigenhoek had put up a large tent at their fishery for the “Vliegbindevenement”.
One or two people could participate in a workshop and learned one on one how to tie different flies.
Each of the well-known fly-tiers gave three workshops of one and a half hour each during the day.
André Miegies works with his “pupils” on streamers for perch.
Kees van der Hulst (l) had a stand where he explained how to build splitcane fly-rods.
Bram van Houten (r) with two of the flyfishers that signed up for a workshop.
Dimitri de Grauw (r) tied some large pike streamers together with the people that had put their names down for a workshop with him.
Jan Reniers had to cancel his workshops due to illness, Erik de Noorman (r) took his place with enthusiasm.
Theo Bakelaar (r) is happy about the tying results of his pupil.
At the terrace outside the tent some food and drinks, as well as the sunshine, could be enjoyed.
Jos Peeters (r) gave some fly-casting demonstrations plus tips and tricks for those that had a willing ear.
Against reduced prices it was also possible for visitors to flyfish for trout on the larger of the two lakes here. Despite the bright, sunny weather a good number of trout were caught.
The fly tiers that gave workshops were: André Miegies, Bram van Houten, Dimitri de Grauw, Erik de Noorman, Henk Huising, Henk van Rossum, Maarten van den Driesche, Marry de Jong-Wit, Paul van den Driesche, Rudy van Duijnhoven, Theo Bakelaar and Theo van den Driesche.
Not too many people came to the Fly-tying Event, but those that did come had an enjoyable and interesting day.
