In our new series we talk to one of RIO’s fly designers and get the full story Behind The Fly. We start this series with RIO’s Participation Trophy.
RIO’s Participation Trophy is one of the deadliest flats flies we have ever fished, and works equally well on permit and bonefish.
For those targeting bonefish, this is a must have fly. Combined with extra small lead eyes, this pattern sinks well in deeper flats, and draws the attention of both bonefish and permit. Available in both spawning shrimp colors and a more muted pink, this fly is a universal pattern that will quickly become a go-to.
In Case You Missed It…
This link to the previous RIO Fly Fishing Tip explains why it is so important to practice casting using the same length of leader, and ensuring a far greater level of distance control by knowing how far the fly is away from your fly line, every time.
RIO’s Fly Tying Tip
Our twice-a-month RIO Fly Tying Tip has proven to be very popular, and if you missed the last episode, you can catch it again here. In this episode Brita shows talks about the different types of scissors available to fly tiers, and what the advantages are of each one.
