On behalf of the Board of Trustees at the American Museum of Fly Fishing, we are honored to announce that Rik Hafer has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Austin Hogan Award for his outstanding 3 part series “How Rainbow Trout Came to Missouri (and Your State Too)”.
The Austin Hogan Award was created to recognize exemplary contributions to our quarterly publication, The American Fly Fisher. “How Rainbow Trout Came to Missouri (and Your State Too)” is an uncommonly fine piece of historical research, extremely worthy of this prestigious award.
Too often, the history of fly fishing includes repetitions of erroneous conventional wisdom. “How Rainbow Trout Came to Missouri (and Your State Too)” on the other hand, is a truly encyclopedic review of rainbow trout rearing and stocking in the US, and testimony to its accuracy is to be found in numerous footnotes, which will provide inestimable assistance to future researchers.
