Guideline: We were lucky enough to spend a day during the peak of the historic Northeast saltwater fall run with ambassador Mike Querfeld. Mike, from Connecticut, is well versed in everything from small stream tactical trout fishing to targeting the most powerful fish in the ocean on fly. Striped bass and false albacore were the targets of the day, which during this time of year are often found visually feeding for some fast-paced action. When albies are around, the captain and angler must work together to anticipate the movement of the fish and deliver a quick and accurate cast, which we proved many times over.
Mike walked us through his strategies for targeting these fish throughout the year, his preferred tackle, and the importance of catch and release in a delicate fishery. Our main setup was the NT11 Saline #10 paired with a Vosso, to quickly fight and land these fish. Be ready to see some backing!
