In this fly fishing video, we join Fulling Mill Ambassador Tim Pottage for a morning of carp fishing in London. For those of you living in London, or MANY other cities for that matter, carp are an abundant species—you just have to put in the time to find them. They’re a ton of fun to fly fish for, too. You mostly sight fish them, they’re picky, and they fight incredibly hard. Throughout the video Tim talks about his preferred rod and line combination, his leader and tippet setup, how he presents to them, and what body language to look for in a feeding carp. These fish don’t give it up easy, but they provide incredible and technical sport that for many is close to home. In this case Tim was able to take public transit to get to and from the venue. He didn’t even need to drive out of the city! Finally, carp are a great species to target on the fly in the summer when water temps are much higher as they’re much more tolerant of this than species like trout.

 

 

Tim Pottage is a London based fly angler who fishes for a wide variety of species. From carp in London docks and mullet on the coast to casting dry flies to trout on the Wandle and coarse fish in small streams, Tim chases all species. He enjoys the process of trying to catch different species on a fly rod, a by-product of which is that his missions often take me to some amazing places he would never visit otherwise. Because I like to fish at last twice a week I also search out local venues to fish, most of which are off the beaten track as far as fly fishing goes. Tim’s a huge advocate of exploring your local waters and trying to figure them out—regardless of what species you may find in it.
