The International Year of the Salmon (IYS) is a project launched by NASCO, the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization NPAFC, North Pacific Anadromous Fish Commission and other partners.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"TheInternational<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The IYS focal year will be 2019, with projects and activities starting in 2018 and continuing into 2022. Various events and projects will be held throughout the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The main objectives of these activities are threefold: to create a greater awareness of the ecological, social, cultural and economic value of salmon; to support research, conservation and restoration strategies to help manage the species; and to push scientists, decision-makers and the public to take actions in order to safeguard this iconic fish.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Seminar on Dam removal<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next Dam removal seminar will take place on the 22-23 of May 2019 in P\u00e4rnu, Estonia.The two-day seminar will consist of presentations about dam removal stories, techniques and strategies from European countries and the USA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition participants will\u00a0visit\u00a0the Sindi Dam removal site along the P\u00e4rnu River and the Purtse River contamination site, that is part of a unique river restoration project in Estonia.\u00a0
