MEP Michal\u00a0Wiezik\u00a0asked a written question to the European Commission on the Danube river system\u2019s contribution to the EU Biodiversity Strategy\u2019s\u00a0restoration\u00a0targets, which foresees an objective of restoring 25,000 km\u00a0into free-flowing rivers. Fish migration\u00a0in the Danube\u00a0is\u00a0hindered by barriers notably\u00a0at the Iron Gate on the Serbian\/Romanian border\u00a0and\u00a0at\u00a0Gab\u010d\u00edkovo\u00a0in Slovakia.\u00a0The Commission responded\u00a0to the MEP\u2019s question\u00a0by giving some details\u00a0regarding the longest European river, recognising that fish migration was made more difficult because of those obstacles\u00a0on Europe\u2019s rivers.<\/p>\n
