Five Rivers Lodge in Dillon, Montana, is getting ready for a spectacular season. With the current snowpack and with more moisture yet to come, the rivers should have a steady flow of cold water all season long. The fish are going to be happy, hungry, and have a very nasty dispositions. With a few years of higher heat and lower water, this season is going to do more than make up for the lower water years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So far, this winter has shown constant cold weather with a lot of precipitation. There is no reason that this trend should change. As of April 16th , the snowpack and water content in the area\u2019s major river drainages is still between 116% to as high as 135% of normal.<\/p>\n

That should offer a great year of cold water. The bugs should be more consistent, predictable, and out in greater numbers.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Clark Canyon Reservoir, which feeds the Beaverhead River, is at a high level we have not seen in years.<\/p>\n

Southwest Montana should experience a regular runoff from for rivers this year, sending Salmon flies skittering across the surface for explosive dry fly eats. The Golden Stones, Little Yellow Sallys, Caddis and major PMD hatches will follow and should stick around longer than normal with the cold water. With the water levels holding great this year, we are looking forward to epic blankets of Caddis, Mayflies, Tricos, BWOs and exceptional Hopper fishing in August, September, and well into October.<\/p>\n
