There is an impressive line-up of casters again at this years Experience the World of Flyfishing (EWF). Under the expert guidance and translation (if necessary) of Jürgen Friesenhahn you can enjoy watching some of the finest casters from Europe and the USA.


Saturday 09 April 2016 Outdoor

10:30 – 11:00 hours

Theme: Effective Casts to Conquer Currents and Obstructions

Instructor: Thibaut Giband

Thibaut’s demo will show techniques to effectively present a fly with obstacles between you and the fish, how to fight drag with curved or slack line, and placing a fly under branches. He’ll explain and demonstrate basic and advanced casts, line management techniques, all with a classic outfit (except a longer leader) so that the spectators can take some tricks home with them.

 

11:00 – 11:30 hours

Theme: The History of Fly Casting

Instructor: Roman Moser

We’ll accompany Roman through the history of the fly cast. From the very beginning to English and American styles; the Gebetsroiter style will, of course, be a part of this informative demonstration. Roman himself is a living part of fly fishing history and that makes this casting demo a “must” for every EWF visitor.

 

11:30 – 12:00 hours

Theme: Traditional and Modern Spey Casting

Instructor: Gary Scott

Gary will provide, beginning with the roll cast (the basis of all Spey casts) a colorful review of Spey casting techniques from the past to modern methods such as the snake roll.

 

12:00 – 12:30 hours

Theme: Casting Techniques for Sea Trout Fishing and Competition

Instructor: Silja Longhurst

Silja is an enthusiastic angler for sea trout and is also very successful in competition casting. She will show us how to use competition techniques, in a meaningful fashion, for coastal angling.

 

12:30 – 13:00 hours

Theme: Casts for all Occasions

Instructor: Stevie Munn

Stevie will be casting with single handed fly rods, showing us overhead casts, roll casts, Spey casts, slack line casts, aerial mend casts, double haul casts, tactic casts, faulty casts and all within half an hour! You say impossible? Come and see! We will surely have fun at Stevie’s informative demo.

 

13:00 – 13:30 hours

Theme: The Scandinavian Style

Instructor: Trond Syrstad

Trond will give his personal perspective about the famous Scandinavian casting style.
As an internationally known competition caster and native Norwegian, he is a great choice for this topic.

 

13:30 – 14:00 hours

Theme: Tradition Meets Present

Instructor: Michael Mauri

Why fiberglass rods and how to cast them? What are tight loops and how important are they in fishing?

 

14:00 – 14:30 hours

Theme: From Overhead Casting To Spey Casting

Instructor: Way Yin

Way will cover the basic fundamental physics behind casting, that is, “what makes a fly cast tick” – from “two dimensional” overhead casting progressing to Spey style casts. We’ll see a presentation on basic fundamental “building blocks”, and take it “three dimensional”.

 

14:30 – 15:00 hours

Theme: The Key Words That Will Improve Your Fly Casting

Instructor: Mathias Lilleheim

Mathias will talk about grips, wrists, false starts for optimal transitions, rod angles and double hauling and, of course, wedding rings. These key elements will help fly fishers towards better fly casting.

 

15:00 – 15:30 hours

Theme: Getting It Right

Instructor: Hans Eiber

Curve, reach, puddle, and such. The most important special and trick casts for every fly fisher. The how and why explained in easy steps.

 

15:30 – 16:00 hours

Theme: Casting in Simple Terms

Instructor: Glenda Powell

Glenda will be using both double and single handed rods and will firstly work through the fundamental casting principles. Then she’ll will work on Overhead casts, Roll Casts including Jump Rolls, Single and Double Spey casts and presentation techniques.

Theme: Casting Big Flies & Common Faults

Instructor: Rudy van Duijnhoven

What rods and lines do you need and what should you pay attention to when casting these “half chickens”? Rudy will show how this can be done without applying great strength so that such fishing can be fun. In addition, he’ll show casting mistakes which are not easy to recognize and how to correct them.
