The summer was underway and is always the best time for catching trout on dry flies!

The summer was underway and is always the best time for catching trout on dry flies! Although Slovakia isn’t a very big country, it offers various possibilities for Trout and Grayling fishing. On our last fishing trip, we decided to venture to our longest river, the river Váh and its upper course in the Liptov region. There are many stretches of the river where catch and release are practised and the chances of catching a trophy Trout, Grayling or Huchen are very high.

What was your first fly fishing experience?

It was a pleasant autumn day and my friend Venco and I were fishing on the Váh river. Where we were fishing there are a lot of Chub, Perch and Pike. As per usual, I was fishing an ultralight spinning set up whilst Venco was fly fishing. As he was much more successful, I could not resist the temptation to try the fly fishing equipment. My first few casts were only about 3 metres into the water…  but I found it really exciting so I didn´t give up, I practiced hard and soon I purchased my first fly fishing rod a Loop Xact. Since then, I have never used any other fishing technique.

Of all the various species that you target on your fly fishing travels, which are your favourite?

My favourite are Trout, for sure. I love to catch them on dry flies. I also like going after Pike, Carp and Grayling also, but first place has to go to the New Zealand Trout. No doubt about it.

As an avid dry fly Trout fisherman, do you dream of trying new techniques for different species?

Of course! Fly Fishing is so diverse. It offers endless opportunities for fishing for various species in such beautiful places around the world. It would be a shame not to make use of the opportunity! My dreams are to visit tropical salt water destinations and also maybe to try fishing for Salmon with double-handed rods.

What would you say is your perfect tackle set up for this kind of fly fishing?

I would choose an Opti Speedrunner and Megaloop with a Cross S1 8# and 10# for fishing in the sea. However, I have recently tried the new Evotec Cast, so it’s very hard to make a decision. It´s a really well made fishing rod!

What is it that drives your passion for fly fishing and new adventures?

It´s mainly the nature, which offers me the escape from reality. In my opinion, the number of fish caught on my rod is not as important, as the time I spend with my best friends in all these beautiful parts of our planet. Catching a fish is like the icing on the cake. The desire to experience something new, something exciting is what drives me further. Through my pictures, videos and articles, I not only try to mediate all these to people, who don´t have the possibility to get there, but I also want to inspire them to try to get out there!

If there was one destination you’ve dreamed of fishing before you die, where would it be?

A hard question! Maybe I would consider going back to New Zealand, but because I´m a tropic salt water virgin, I would choose the sea! GT, Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon! Yeah! Mexico, Seychelles, Cuba! Where to go first?

Where will your next adventure take you?

In October, I´m going to the San River in Poland, as I have really taken a liking to that place. Every year my perfect group of fishermen friends meet there. We always enjoy ourselves while catching Grayling and Trout which are usually trophy worthy! Next year, I would love to visit Iceland or the above mentioned Mexico! The adventure continues!

The adventure continues!
