After four competitions on coarse fishing waters and trout fisheries, the final of the Dutch Championship Flyfishing 2016 was fished at the “Dode Maas” near Rossum. This final was sponsored by flyfishing shop Handy Fish and Airflo (wholesale company Elberse International).
After some days with a cold northeastern wind the fish had clearly moved to deeper water. It was not easy to catch even some tiny fish in the ginclear water.
Peter Elberse had started the final being five points ahead of Bram Zanis. When he caught eight fish in one session, Peter obviously started to get a bit nervous…
Two women had been able to enter the final that was fished by thirty competition flyfishers: Jeannette de Jong – Adriaanse (picture) and Marry de Jong.
Some of the fish had the size of just a few pixels…
When after a few fishless sessions Peter started to land some fish again, a smile came back on his face: he knew the championship was within reach.
Practising on this water was clearly an advantage for Peter Elberse and his training partner Marty Maas.
Bram Zanis reached for third place in the competition on the day with thirteen fish. The prizes were handed out by Bert Schouten of Handy Fish.
Peter Elberse earned a second place with one fish more.
Marty Maas (right) was with seventeen fish the winner of the Handy Fish – Airflo Cup. He is on the picture with the sponsors of this competition Bert Schouten of Handy Fish and Peter Elberse of Elberse International, distributor for Airflo.

Thanks Rudy for this great report and perfect pictures. Only to mention that we had a curious beaver swimming real close by during the match checking out those funny folks with waders and all carried carbon branches and they had more collected on the banks. ……. ha ha. Gr. Bert. 2handy2handle
