The new report has details of 41 different species of specimen fish taken by anglers in 2016 in Ireland. 28 different species (including bass, common skate, gilthead bream, various species of mullet, several species of ray, etc) were taken by sea anglers. Freshwater anglers accounted for the remaining species. Particularly large numbers of carp (10% of total), spurdog (15%) and smooth hound (17%) were caught, weighed and released.
As well as the new record smooth hound, detailed information on 485 specimen fish (i.e. large fish) taken by anglers from venues throughout Ireland in 2016 are presented.
