Youth Fly-Fishing Event VNV a sunny success
Under sunny, Spring circumstances the Youth Fly-Fishing Event of the Dutch Federation of Fly-Fishers (VNV) was a major success. The event was held on Sunday the 9th of April at trout-fishery Ruigenhoek in Utrecht.
The day started with getting to know different water-insects, learning to tie some first flies and fly-casting instruction.
A total of 34 children up to the age of sixteen attended the day.
The Ruigenhoek is situated in the central of the Netherlands, an ideal place to hold an event like this.
The afternoon was spend on the largest of the two trout lakes here.
“Keep the rod tip low to feel a take on the trout lure”.
Casting into the wind is far from easy for a newcomer to fly-fishing. But the shore were the wind is blowing towards is often were trout can be found.
A pair of sunglasses is important to protect the eyes and to find trout moving in the lake.
Even one of the mothers got so enthusiastic that she wanted to try it for herself.
A good number of trout were landed, often even on flies the children had tied themselves!
Casting into the future, we need a lot more children to take up this sport!
