Video: Guatemala sailfish on fly

During the making of Tidewater, we had spent weeks behind a lens and in front of a screen enthralled with catching billfish on a fly rod. A few months after the release of the film, we got the opportunity to experience the thrill first hand at one of the best locations in the world: Guatemala.

Hosted by Sailfish Oasis, a top notch fishing lodge, we were comfortable throughout our stay. We spent three days on the water with Capt. Chris Vann Leeuwen at the helm of the Allure II. Our primary targets were billfish, but we tangled with mahi mahi, tuna, and anything else we could throw a fly at among the blue water. The action was steady. We consistently raised +20 sailfish per day.

Three of us caught our first sails on a fly rod. Getting to share those moments with our good friends Meredith McCord and Patrick Duke made the trip even more special.
