Being recognized by George Anderson and his noted Yellowstone Angler fly shop staff in Livingston, Montana for making a quality fly rod is always a special honor. Taking first place honors in the coveted Yellowstone Angler 5-Weight Shootout in what is now four times in a row simply shows that the crew at G. Loomis knows how to make fly rods. Just announced on its website – Yellowstone Angler 5-Weight Shootout – the G. Loomis NRX LP 5-weight “wins again with its unmatched feel and performance at short to medium distances.”
Within its website article about the Shootout, Yellowstone Angler notes the NRX LP 5 is “definitely one of Steve Rajeff’s best efforts as a rod designer. Not only is this a marvelous rod or fishing dry flies, bit it’s also a wonder rod for fishing nymphs.”
While the NRX LP took first place honors again, the brand new G. Loomis/Shimano jointly developed Asquith 5-weight placed second in all the important performance only categories. The Yellowstone Angler staff said ‘this confirmed our experience that the Asquith is one of the best performing rods in existence, and one of the top performing rods in our Shootout.”
Introduced in 2012, along the 9-foot five weight, the G. Loomis NRX Lite Presentation fly rod line-up includes both 7-foot-6-inch and 8-foot-8-inch three weights, and a 9-foot four weight. All four rods are available in ‘NRX Green’ blank colors. They feature black Ion coated REC Recoil guides, and a G. Loomis custom reel seat and grip design.
