The European Anglers Alliance (EAA) and the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association (EFTTA) have always been proud supporters of this important event, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of healthy open rivers and about the difficulties faced by migratory fish species to fulfil their natural life cycle due to the presence of man-made barriers in the rivers, such as weirs and hydropower dams.

The WFMD is organized every two years by the World Fish Migration Foundation and this year more than 560 events have been held in 63 countries worldwide and 224 in Europe alone. In total, more than 100.000 people celebrated the day and more than 10 million people were reached on social media.
