Another season closes on the River Blackwater, and we would like to give thanks to you, our customers and friends, with glad and sincere hearts. It is you who have made this year a success. It is you who have provided the memories and stories that we will recall around the fireside this winter.

It was a pleasure for our family to meet so many wonderful people from Ireland and from around the world. We love that you bring knowledge with you from your unique cultures, rivers and angling backgrounds. We have fond memories of families fishing together, the wonder as someone catches there 1st or 100th fish, the majestic Munster Blackwater, inspiring valley, rolling hills, BBQ’s and people having fun because, ‘time is of no importance in this place’. Etched deep in our minds are the memories of true passion that we will all recall later in our lives.

It was our pleasure to be of service to you this year, and we hope you will give us the opportunity to be of service to you again in the future. We have already started to take bookings for next season and we would welcome your enquiry for next year by email or phone.

Casting/Fishing Courses for 2017

Above is a photograph of me with my first salmon caught on the river Don in Aberdeenshire when I was 18 years old. I will never forget this fish, my first, on the fly and I was by myself when I landed it.

How times and methods for salmon fishing have changed since this battle was fought. With this in mind I would like to announce that I will be running several courses in 2017.  Courses to suit beginners or improvers or those who relish in learning a new technique.  (A bit early I know but these make great Christmas presents).

February 1st is Opening Day and we would like to welcome you to the start of the new season with a breakfast roll and a fun casting/gear clinic.  Spaces are limited and the cost is €15. Booking is essential please.

February 4th I will be running a workshop on Casting and fishing sinking/skagit lines and heavy flies workshop at Kilmurry.  The cost is €150 per person including lunch and fishing.  Maximum 6 participants.

March 25th Spey Casting for beginners including lunch and fishing.  The cost is €150 per person including lunch and fishing. Maximum 6 participants.

April 8th Spey Casting for Improvers including lunch and fishing. The cost is €150 per person including lunch and fishing.  Maximum 6 participants.

During late May we will be running a Hitching course.  This is a one day course and as the first day is fully booked, we will be running a second day.  We will have two guides from Iceland joining us to teach this technique alongside myself. This is a very interesting method of fishing and we have caught many fish on this technique since my return from Iceland in August.  The cost is €150 and there are only a few places left for day 2.

Late June/July I plan to run a ladies course on Spey Casting in Scotland on the River Tay.  Dates to be confirmed, but please let me know if you are interested. Maximum 6 ladies.

These are but a few of the early courses for 2017. I look forward to seeing you on one of them.
