There are nice alternatives to be found in Mayo and other parts of Ireland for when the mayfly does not hatch or when the salmon do no move much upstream. You can use your bellyboat to fly-fish one of the small to medium sized lakes for pike.

We fished a medium sized lake today, south of Ballina. This a very shallow lake, an intermediate pike line is really all that you need here.

A streamer in natural colours, a combination of white, green and black, did the job for me today. I tried other colours, but only got takes on these flies.
