Dear Bristol Bay supporters,
In August, the Army Corps of Engineers told Pebble that its current plan would fail to receive the most important federal permit because it didn’t meet Clean Water Act standards. Pebble was sent back to the drawing board to re-do its mitigation plan.
Today, Pebble submitted a new plan. Unsurprisingly, it still fails to protect Bristol Bay from permanent damage. Tell decision makers to deny Pebble’s permit today.
The project will still ruin the world’s greatest wild salmon fishery
Pebble hasn’t made its plan public yet, but here’s what we do know. Pebble’s plan refers to actions they propose to offset the negative impacts of the project on wetlands and streams. Regardless of the details of this plan, the project will still ruin the world’s greatest wild salmon fishery – no mitigation plan can change that. Bristol Bay is so pristine that there aren’t places for Pebble to try to clean up or make better in exchange for permanently destroying critical fish habitat.
Pebble’s new mitigation plan is the latest is a long string of lies by the company. Take action today: tell Congress to deny the permit and investigate the Pebble Limited Partnership.
The plans are unacceptable
Pebble Limited Partnership had the opportunity to go through the process. The company even got another try, despite the project failing to meet standards the first time. Still, their plans are unacceptable, simply because you can’t mitigate a place as pristine as Bristol Bay. It’s time for the permit to be fully denied.
Thank you.
Meghan and the Save Bristol Bay team
P.S. Trout Unlimited’s commitment to Bristol Bay is two-fold: 1. Stop the proposed Pebble mine, and 2. Establish long-term, up-front, community supported protections for the region. Please consider supporting our work at this critical time.
