Temple Fork Outfitters finds the perfect balance with its latest fly reels and rods

Across two decades Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) has forged a reputation for building rods and reels that deliver the perfect balance between performance and price. And the same is true for three new additions to its range in 2021.

NTR Fly Reel Series

The ‘No Tools Required’ fly reel (above) is as simple as the name sounds.

The ‘No Tools Required’ fly reel (above) is as simple as the name sounds. No fancy tools are needed to change retrieve, tighten the drag or perform any maintenance. Its efficient, powerful and intelligent construction does not take an advanced degree from an Ivy League School to operate, says TFO. It is designed for the angler looking for a high quality machined aluminum fly reel at a friendly price. The reels are offered in two colours – clear-gold and black-gold – and come in four sizes, from a 3/4-weight to a 9/10-weight. Perfect for any single or two-handed rod in the freshwater quiver.

TFO NTR fly reels are fully CNC machined from lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum and feature a smooth cork disc drag system – draw bar design. They also have a one-way stainless-steel spindle bearing with an internal cap and O-ring seal. The drag system is sealed to keep out moisture and dust. The NTR series reel features an out-going check and is easy to change from left to right-hand retrieve. All NTR fly reels come with a black neoprene pouch.

Designed in conjunction with Blane Chocklett, the new BC Big Fly rod from TFO is described as the perfect tool to deliver the biggest flies to the ‘baddest’ fish.

Designed in conjunction with Blane Chocklett, the new BC Big Fly rod from TFO is described as the perfect tool to deliver the biggest flies to the ‘baddest’ fish. TFO’s Brand Manager, Brad Amy, said: “We used our highest modulus material and Axiom technology to redefine performance in an extremely powerful fly rod. Unlike other ‘stiff’ rods, the BC Big Fly delivers both the energy necessary for long casts as well as incredible tracking and recovery, resulting in superior accuracy at distance.”

It features a modified, composite cork full-wells grip and an extended, IGFA-compliant fighting butt for picking up and casting large, game-changer style flies and heavy lines. This extended grip also helps anglers better execute the circular or figure-eight style of moving a fly near the surface. “Big fish put a toll on fly rods. That is why we utilised the highest quality Black Pearl RECOIL guides by REC and ultra-lightweight black pearl single-foot fly guide and stainless-steel snake guides on the BC Big Fly. All rods also feature a built-in hook keeper and an engraved Game Changer style fly logo on the reel seat,” added Amy.

For decades, Flip Pallot has shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with countless anglers in the pursuit of some of the most challenging fish on the planet. Now, once more, he is sharing his experience through the Mangrove Coast rod series. Built with the entry level to intermediate saltwater angler in mind, the series utilises a medium-fast action blank to give anglers the ability to step up to the bow and quickly load and unload an accurate presentation to a tailing fish. When fish start to move out, the Mangrove Coast has enough power in the butt, to pick up and reposition the line at distance. It features full wells grips with an instant rod weight burled cork LINE-ID system, fighting butts on all models, and cleverly machined hook keepers built into each side of the aluminium up-locking reel seat. All rods are topped with saltwater safe Fuji Concept-O stripping guides and ultra-lightweight chromium-impregnated stainless-steel snake guides.
