Edison, NJ Fly Fishing Show starts new season January 28 – 30

Fly-fishers and those who “wanna be one” await the fourth annual Edison Fly Fishing Show as it kicks off the 2022 angling season, Jan. 28-30 at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, 97 Sunfield Ave., Edison.

With sanitized, refurbished and newly decorated exhibitor space, producers promise more manufacturers and retail store displays of the newest fly rods, reels, lines, boots, waders, clothing and flies plus guide services and lodges during the three day mid-winter run. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fri.; 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sat; and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sun. Parking is free.

In addition to resorts and exotic destinations, show visitors looking for fishing vacations can view continuous seminars and trip presentations ranging from the Upper Delaware to Labrador, Iceland to Patagonia. The show will have about 20 seminars, demonstrations and Destination Theater presentations each hour. Among the 50 how-to-do-it seminars are An introduction to Trout Spey with Tim Flagler, Tips for Catching Predators on the Fly with Landon Mayer, Beyond Reading the Water with Jason Randall, New Jersey Striped Bass Blitzes with Jim Freda, Euronymphing with Howard Croston, Reading Waters with Dr. Gary Borger, Tailwaters Top to Bottom with Pat Dorsey, How to Successfully Catch Tarpon with Andy Mill, and 25 Ways to Elevate Your Trout Game with Ed Engle.

Casting demonstrations include those by Borger, Cathy Beck, Brian O’Keefe, George Daniel, Mac Brown, and Sarah Gardner. Featured fly tiers include Philip Rowley, Thomas Baltz, Mayer, Matt Grobert, Tim Cammisa, Borger, and Barry Beck. There will be some 30 classes with experts. Class registration is $85 except for an 8-hour advanced casting class with Borger and Brown on Jan. 27. Tuition for the day-long session is $625.

More than $30,000 worth of national door prizes including a week-long $9,000 value trip to Blue Horizon Lodge in Belize for two anglers will be awarded. The world premiere of the 2022 International Fly Fishing Film Festival is Fri. (1/28) at 6:30. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

Fly Fishing Show® admission is $18 for one day, $28 for two days and $38 for three days. Children under age 5 are free as are Boy and Girl Scouts under age 16 in uniform. Children 6-12 are $5. Active military with an ID are $10.
