This is Fly Magazine #68 out now

This is Fly Magazine Issue 68 has released and we’d like to thank all of our contributors. A collage of words, photographs, music, art, design and storytelling, This is Fly Magazine dishes out the best the addictive sport of fly fishing has to offer.

Issue 68 begins with a feature by Matt McCannel and his creative and painstaking method of targeting trophy trout. Matt explains, “After tracking a fish for several months, or even several years, you start to put together the puzzle of how a fish will act when it feels pressure, when it is feeding, and when it is at rest. When I am watching fish, I take notes on different fish, focusing on exactly where they are when they are relaxed and where they are in the run when they are feeding.”
Kayla Lockhart and KC Badger head south of the border to explore Mexico’s Yucatán and end up having an Unforgettable trip.

Chris Corbin speaks candidly how it’s easy to enjoy the small things and fish at a relaxed yet focused pace when on the water with his Fishing Buddy. Seth Blackamore and gang are set for whatever Baja throws at them in this uncharted journey along a pothole ridden road to Baja’s Wild West. Whitewater oarsmen and guide Maxwell Saffle uncovers big water and big fish in The Patagonia You Thought You Knew. Tom Enderlin comes through with another excellent feature focusing on the once forbidden peacocks of the Amazon in Stalking Buo Apfo. During the countdown to Stonefly pandemonium Mark Rauschenberger hits it right and unleashes the fury when the Western Stones arrive.

Our featured artist, Casey Underwood, began to create a body of work that combined his passion for fly fishing with his artistic expression. Since then, Casey’s work has continued to delve deeper into the subject matter of fish, watersheds and natural themes. Our featured fly designer is Nick Davis and 239 Flies founded in 2012 with the intent of bridging the gap between mass produced junk and your buddy who ties bad ass flies. We are excited to showcase the photography of Andrew Miller who has shaped his style around intimate moments that happen in wild places he has grown to love.

FEATURE: THE NEXT LEVEL

Matt McCannel tells us, "Once you have your targeted fish in sight, you must feed it."

Matt McCannel tells us, “Once you have your targeted fish in sight, you must feed it. Now this may sound like odd advice, but there is a right and wrong way to do this. A very large fish will not move far to eat your little offering. That being said, a very large fish will also never pass up a meal. It has been my observation that most fly anglers do not watch where their flies hit the water. This is a problem if you are trying to hit the fish in the face.”   Read More
