BAUER showcases brand relaunch at IFTD show in Denver

Following its acquisition by Winston Fly Rods in April 2016, BAUER is finally staring down a brand relaunch at this year’s IFTD show in Denver.

It will be showcasing a revolutionary new fly reel range – described as a signal of intent from an iconic US brand.

Leading the relaunch of the BAUER brand at this month’s IFTD show in Denver will be the RVR range.

BAUER has earmarked the October show, which is moving back to its spiritual home in Denver, Colorado, as the perfect springboard for the launch of the new RVR range. The RVR (pronounced ‘river’) is defined as a specialty-performance trout series that focuses on the unique fly fishing applications employed by the modern day US trout angler.

Requirements Bauer reels

Jeff Evans, VP of Operations & Product Development at the Twin Bridges, Montana, facility said: “By focusing specifically on the trout angler’s requirements and demands we have really been able to key in and determine exactly what a trout reel should be rather than trying to design one reel for all formats, which is what we have seen over the past few years due to the growth in saltwater fly fishing.

“By defining this range as non-saltwater compatible from the onset means we have been able to really drive forward with the design team with the creation of complex forms and reductions in wall thicknesses that have ultimately challenged the boundaries of modern-day manufacturing in trout reels.”

BAUER was so serious in its intentions for brand re-definition and design re-invention that it drafted in the expertise of the fly fishing-specific design consultancy, RISE CREATIVE STUDIO and owner, Paul Richardson. Richardson has been tasked with creating a ‘spearhead’ design for the brand that redefines the design language and lays a strong foundation for a future path.

Made in the USA

Carrying on the tradition of sister company, Winston Fly Rods, all of the RVR reels are designed and manufactured in the USA. Scheduled for a Spring 2020 delivery, even this date has been conceived to maximise dealer support, directly aligning with the start of the new trout fishing season of the year ahead.

BAUER will be exhibiting at IFTD (booth #635), where it is inviting all retail, trade and media channels to a keynote presentation on the design development story of the RVR reel range. This will be delivered by Richardson on the booth at 11am, 1pm and 3pm daily over the course of the show.
