Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, the 20th annual Denver Fly Fishing Show will return February 11-13, bigger, stronger and full of life for Rocky Mountain-area anglers.
The three day total immersion into the sport will debut at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, 6700 No. Gaylord Rockies Blvd., announced Ben Furimsky, President and CEO of the Fly Fishing Show. With expanded exhibitor space in the convention center, producers promise more manufacturer and retail store displays of the newest fly rods, reels, lines, boots, waders, clothing, guides and vacation destinations during the three day mid-winter run. Hours are 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Fri.; 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Sat; and 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Sun. Parking is free.
Fly Fishing Show® admission is $18 for one day, $28 for two days and $38 for all three. Children under age 5 are free as are Boy and Girl Scouts under age 16 in uniform. Children 6-12 are $5. Active military with an ID are $10. There will be 35 classes with experts. Class registration is $85 except for an 8-hour advanced casting class with Gary Borger and Mac Brown a day before the show on Thurs., Feb. 10. Tuition is $625.
Regular experts’ classes include Learning Other Essential Casts with Simon Gawesworth, the Art of Nymph Fishing with Jason Randall, Stillwater 101 with Philip Rowley, Casting Strategies with Borger, Fly Fishing Tailwaters with Pat Dorsey, and Practical Nymphing with Ed Engle. In addition to lodges and exotic destinations, show visitors looking for fishing vacations can view continuous seminars and trip presentations ranging from Iceland to Christmas Island; Yellowstone Park to Southern Belize. The show will have about 15 seminars, demonstrations, Adventure and Destination Theater presentations each hour.
Fly-tying demonstrations are scheduled by Borger, Landon Mayer, Philip Rowley, Ed Engle, Tim Cammisa, Charlie Craven and Dorsey. Casting demonstrations include those by Borger, Gawesworth, Brown, Jeff Currier and Devin Olsen. A continuous Women’s Fly Fishing Showcase will feature women-centered discussions, learning opportunities and discussions along with separate exhibitor venues with specialty booths catering to female anglers.
More than $30,000 worth of national door prizes including a week-long $9,000 value trip to the Blue Horizon Lodge in Belize, Central America, will be awarded. The Rocky Mountain premiere of the 2022 International Fly Fishing Film Festival is Fri. (2/11) at 6:30. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
